A day of Home Schooling

On a typical day (one where the baby did not keep me awake all night) We get up and do some chores. Isabelle was extra helpful today and wanted to try washing the dishes.

Owen is taking the recycling out to the bin.

We used making breakfast as our first lesson of the day. We made eggs, grits, and toast with jelly. The lesson was fractions. We are learning about 1/2. They helped measure 1 1/2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of grits. We talked about the differences of dry measurements and liquid measurements in cooking. When we poured the eggs in the pan I talked to them about how heat can change things. The eggs went from a liquid to a solid.

After breakfast we have sit down work. Isabelle is working on math, Owen is practicing writing letters, Grace is drawing and learning colors.

Zachary just practices teething :)

We usually spend 1 to 2 hours on sit down work. Sometimes taking a little color or stretch break.
Some of the subjects we cover are: Bible study, Math, Grammar/Reading, Science, Social Studies/History, and Music. Isabelle practices her violin when we do a music lesson. We don't get to all those subjects in one day, but we always do Bible, Math, and Grammar/Reading everyday.

Today for our Bible lesson we took out different colored stones: Black, Red, White, Blue, Green, and Yellow to talk about Jesus. I like this lesson because it is simple and not too time consuming for them. It also helps Grace learn her colors.

After lessons the kids have outside time while I do some house work. Then lunch and rest time. Our home school day is complete. Some days we will throw in a play group or a field trip. Thursdays we have a great group of home schoolers  get together for a home school co-op.
